“Vivendo com Zika” (Living with Zika) is a new short film from director/writer Matthew Arnold-Ladensack and producer Prarthana Joshi. Taking place in Brazil, Vivendo explores the difficult decision of a mother who discovers that her unborn child has Microcephaly. In Brazil abortion is illegal, however doctors sometimes suggest that mothers induce to abort their babies early when the baby has Microcephaly coupled with other impairing conditions. The story explores a couple's choice to induce or decide to have their baby.
“Vivendo com Zika” is an international co-production shot in Portuguese and filmed in Los Angeles & Brazil. Director Arnold-Ladensack wanted to preserve the authenticity and realness by filming in the native language. The filmmakers hope that the film opens people’s eyes to a personal story about the effects of the Zika virus, especially in the United States where the virus is already beginning to spread.
